The First Islamic Delegation Hosted by the AU’s Capital Addis Ababa

Ethiopian President and Prime Minister Receive the MWL’s Secretary General .. Ethiopian Leadership Welcomes the MWL and appreciates its international efforts

His Excellency the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, received His Excellency the Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL), Chairman of the Association of the Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Issa, who is visiting the capital of Addis Ababa heading the MWL’s visiting delegation, which is the first Islamic delegation hosted by the capital of the African Union (AU), Addis Ababa.

The Prime Minister welcomed the MWL’s delegation and discussed with them the efforts exerted to enhance religious, intellectual, and societal awareness in general with the aim to confront extremist ideas regardless of their source while stressing the important role of the religious leaders of the different religions in this regard.

Her Excellency the President of the Republic, Mrs. Sahle-Work Zewde, also received His Excellency the MWL’s Secretary General and welcomed the delegation accompanying him describing the visit as important, praising the MWL’s efforts and appreciating its global missions, especially its contributions to the promotion of peace and coexistence in multinational societies, as well as its provision of humanitarian services.

Her Excellency noted the importance of peaceful coexistence in countries of religious, ethnic, and cultural pluralism around the world, as well as among all members of the same society, the matter which leads humanity as a whole to enjoy peace and prosperity.

Her Excellency also praised the Islamic community in Ethiopia, considering it one of the distinguished and interactive societies, and praising it for its efforts in serving society and the state, and its effective contribution to development, and enlightenment.

The two meetings were attended by His Eminence the President of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council (EIASC) and Chairman of the Council of Followers of Religions Sheikh Hajji Ibrahim and several government officials.
