Statement on the burning of copies of the Holy Quran in Denmark

Makkah

The Muslim World League (MWL) has condemned – in a strongly worded statement – the crime of burning a copy of the Holy Quran, by extremists in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, in a shamefully repeated act that aims to provoke the feelings of Muslims.

In the MWL’s statement, His Excellency the Secretary-l General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, condemned these heinous and absurd practices, which violate all religious and humanitarian norms and principles, and clash with the values of the international community, which recently warned of the dangers of these practices, and clearly declared its rejection of all manifestations of “Islamophobia”, incitement, and hatred against Islam and Muslims.

The statement renewed the warning of the dangers of practices that stimulate hatred and stir up religious feelings, which only serve the agendas of extremists, leading to the goals of their malevolent ideology, supported by official protection under a pretext completely rejected by normal moral logic, and which has offended the civilized meaning of freedoms, making it with such extremist concept an incubator for provocateurs of religious and intellectual conflicts.

The statement continued: “At a time when our world hopes to work to strengthen friendship among nations and peoples, we are stunned by these criminal practices which aim to hinder such positive initiatives and fulfill the evil schemes of the haters, who have been accused of stirring up several bloody conflicts.
